Summer School 2021: "Textile and Dye"

Every year billions of garments are produced worldwide. Plenty of energy, materials and water are consumed in textile industries. But how are these clothes produced from basic components? How old is the textile industry? And what happens to our clothes, when we simply don’t need them anymore?
Throughout history human nature sought comfort and luxury. From ancient Egypt to Renaissance to modern days fashion as well as the textile industry changed significantly. When millions of years ago garments were mostly obtained from animals, nowadays cotton and synthetic fabrics contribute more to the textile industry. You probably know where cotton comes from. But do you know how you have colorful clothes and how the color doesn't come off, when you wash your clothes? And is it better for the environment to buy cotton textiles or synthetic ones?

If you are eager to know the answers to these questions, you are welcome to join our Summer School this July and find out.

The Summer School offers one day to spend in the laboratory, perform experiments, conduct interactive exercises and listen to a lecture from a science ambassador and Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellow.
